Our skin is unique to ourselves, as different as our personalities and our lifestyles, so to follow blindly someone else’s routine might not be the best course of action for developing glowing, healthy skin.
There are a number of factors to consider. First is genetics: Aside from our skin tones, we inherit our skin conditions from our families, particularly our parents. For some, it may be something as simple as skin type—oily skin, for example—while for others, it can be having a more serious condition such as acne.
Another factor is where you live. Have you ever traveled out of town and noticed how the change in scenery made your skin clearer? The climate also plays a role in how our skin appears, so before you put all your hope and money on trendy Korean skincare products, consider where you live first. Since we live in a warm, tropical country, our skin is more prone to producing oil compared to those living in colder climates, who are more prone to having dry skin.
The last things to consider are your lifestyle and diet. Do you exercise? Do you eat a lot of junk food? What you do with your body and how you care for it also affect the skin. Generally, those who exercise regularly may have healthier-looking skin because of the increase blood flow to skin cells. And of course, a healthy diet always helps.
All this isn’t to say that you should throw out all your beauty and skincare products. Simply be more discerning about what you buy and use. By thoroughly understanding what your skin needs, you’ll be able to focus and tailor your skincare routine to what will really make it better.
