Meeting new people and dating this entire year has been a challenge in itself. The fact that so many of us have had to deal with that deserves a reward just for making it this far. Maybe an Iced Lemon Tea to keep our heads cool?
We’ve covered online date ideas before, and while those are every bit as fun now as they were back then (online escape rooms are exactly as stressful as you’d expect), maybe it’s time to spoil yourself a bit. There’s only so much you can learn about someone new with a face shield between you two, after all.
So hey, here’s what you can do to help break the ice down into delicious little shavings like in that absolutely indulgent JCoccino Frappe:
Watch a movie
Watching a drive-thru movie is one of those corny ideas that leaves loads of people divided, but it’s honestly kinda cute. You might not want to lead off with a film because of how you still need to settle in and feel comfortable even while keeping socially distant, but you can learn a lot about someone by their taste in films and how they act when there’s an abrupt jumpscare taking years off your lives, like that one scene from “It Follows” that STILL scares the unholy demons out of me.
Who needs an exorcist, right?
Go forth and hike
And hey, Masungi Georeserve has re-opened. It’s an easy drive away from the congested mess of the Metro and remains somehow pristine with all of nature’s wonders and immeasurable beauty.
You can feel alive working through the wonders of nature, snapping some absolutely gorgeous shots while you’re there, and frankly, with all that space around, it’s easy enough to keep a 6ft distance between yourselves and other guests.
Shoot a few arrows
Archery is enjoying a resurgence in popularity since it’s a sport that you can engage in by yourself or enjoy with friends. Places like Arrowland by Gandiva make you feel like an absolute badass, and it’s honestly not that hard to keep the gear clean whether you’re bringing in your own or renting their stock.
And yeah, you can tell a lot about a person’s character when you see how they react to absolutely whiffing a target from a moderate distance. It’s not a good feeling, let me tell you.
Visit the zoo
I know this whole mess started because of a virus that made the jump from some innocent animals to humans, but honestly it’s impossible to be mad at adorable animals which is why zoo dates are still very much in, thanks much. You can have fun seeing nature from a safe distance and marvel at how beautiful and diverse life can be.
Communicate over coffee
Whatever you end up doing, there’s no better way to wrap it up than to sit down and talk. Communication is something that many people took for granted, only less so now that there’ve been fewer opportunities for it the last few months.
Coffee dates might sound like a cliche, but when there’s nothing between you and your date except a drink and a treat of their choice, it’s easy to really get to know them and unwind, looking back on how things went that day.
